Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 - AI Magic!

The pace of progress in artificial intelligence is incredibly fast. Development in the field of AI has been so vigorous that there is a high possibility of developing a type of computer that can program itself! AI plays a huge role in our daily lives.
When you ask Alexa or Google for the morning news, you are talking to an AI. A photo captured will be examined by AI to make it look better. The moment you read this particular blog, AI can understand your interests and suggest a similar topic.

The next-generation processors can bring advanced AI technology to your smartphones!
You might have heard of the company Qualcomm which makes processors for Android smartphones. Qualcomm unveiled its next-generation chipset for flagship Android devices...

Meet the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 with a 20% faster CPU and 30% faster GPU with advanced AI features.

Here are 7 things you need to know about this INDOMITABLE SnapDRAGON:

1) More capable AI core - Smartphone chipsets have a CPU core, GPU core, and an AI core. Basically, the AI core takes more complex processing tasks that the CPU and GPU find challenging to execute and comes up with efficient solutions to make the job easy. This new chip is 4 times more capable than the existing ones.

Also, with this AI technology, the device can detect your health condition like COVID or asthma by listening to your voice! (real-time voice monitoring)

2) Gaming - Yes!! The new AI core helps the user to play games by consuming less battery. This chip uses a technique that upscales the frame rate that the CPU and GPU couldn't. For a game to feel smooth, it must run at 30 fps (frames per second), but CPUs and GPUs alone cannot produce higher frame rates for heavy games; here, the AI tech comes into action. The AI core makes the game run at 15 fps and applies motion smoothing, which analyses the object's motion and adds intermediate frames to make it appear to be running at 30 fps... Amazing feature :)

Difference between 15, 30, 45, and 60 fps

3) AI antenna tuning - We know that our phones have antenna bands around their frame. Some of the antenna bands will be blocked when we hold our phone, not getting the expected speed. Qualcomm came out with a solution to solve this problem where the AI chip analyses the orientation of your phone and redirects the power from the antenna you are blocking to the antenna you are not.

4) Image processing - Some companies like Google and OnePlus prefer less physical components and rely more on image processing, i.e., they take photos with a 12MP camera and manage to make that image look as if it was taken on a 50MP camera. This processing power can be increased with this chip which offers an 18-bit ISP (image signal processor). According to Qualcomm, this chip can process 40,000% more camera data than the current phones!!! That means you get more accurate colors, better dynamic range, a broader view with more clarity, etc. Photos that are taken with night mode are also well processed with this chip.
If the chip is optimized with even better hardware and software skin, I bet this will take better photos than a standard DSLR camera.

5) Video - This processor can allow 8K High dynamic range plus (HDR+) footage with improved stabilization. In my previous blog, I wrote about apple's cinematic mode, where videos can be captured only in 1080p resolution, but you can record in 4K with this chip!

6) Always on camera  The AI core has a hidden ISP, which uses significantly less power to run. This basically accesses the front camera and will always be turned on. The instant you look at your phone, it will be unlocked, and the second you take it away for you, it locks itself. This is an effortless way to use your device, and you don't have to double-tap the screen or press the power button to wake it up every time you want it to be unlocked. We have to wait and see what phone companies will do to slove the privacy issue, as the front camera is always on!

7) EfficiencyAs most of the brutal tasks are effectively handled by the AI core, battery drain due to CPU and GPU usage will be less, leading to better battery life.
The great thing here is Qualcomm made all this possible in a 4nm body, which is smaller than the previous gen!

In a nutshell, Qualcomm has offered phone manufacturers a long feature list that can be implemented in their phones. Companies like Xiaomi have already started their 12 series smartphone production with this 8 Gen1 processor.

In my opinion, the company which can implement all these features with good software optimization and great hardware can bring the best overall smartphone.
Let's wait and watch which company effectively uses these features provided by the monster processor... Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, or OnePlus? Let me know your views in the comment section below.
I'll catch you guys in the next one 🙏
