Smartphone Tips and Tricks - Part I: Hardware

Hey! It's been a long time since my last post... Sorry for the delay :)

"Smartphones entered the world as a luxury; gradually, they became a necessity."
In today's world, almost every person on earth uses a smartphone. From a baby listening to "Baby Shark do do do," to boys and girls playing video games, and using social media, to uncles and aunties using it for official work, to grandma and grandpa using it to watch TV serials on Voot, and to send "WhatsAppuu" messages :)

But... there are some minor, essential things that you must follow to efficiently use your smartphone.

Myths Busted!

I'll categorize my write-up into 2 parts:

  • Hardware (Part-I)
  • Software (Part-II)

=> Hardware

1) Smartphone heating: When we play games with high graphics or render HD videos, the phone will be hot to the touch, and many think that the phone's battery is hot! But it's not... The processor performing these heavy load tasks will be heated up, and this is not a problem because these chips can resist heat up to 100 degrees celsius! And the battery is placed away from the processor to avoid the exchange of heat.

2) Battery specs: When you are given 2 phones, one with 4000 mAH and the other with 5000 mAH, many think that 5000>4000, so battery life will be amazing... But it's not the case here. Battery life majorly depends on software optimization and the weightage of the software. If the phone with 4000 mAH is more optimized, it can run up to 3 times more than the phone with a 5000 mAH battery with no proper optimization.
Better the software optimization, better the battery life.

3) Phone thieves LOL: People think removing the SIM card makes the phone untraceable. That's not true; nowadays, smartphones can be easily tracked using their serial number. So any phone thieves out there reading this blog... Beware :))

4) Aeroplane mode: There is a myth that the plane will crash if we use smartphones inside the plane; that's definitely false. If a phone is being used inside a plane, there will be some minor interruptions for the pilot to communicate with ATCT (Air Traffic Control Tower); therefore, it is recommended to use airplane mode.

5) Night Mode: Phones screens affect our sleep if we use them at night; yes, that's true. So, it is recommended to use 'Night Mode' that makes the display color tone a bit warmer to reduce eye strain.

6) Battery and Charing:
  • Do not charge your phone by placing it on a warm surface, for example: on the refrigerator. This is too risky and will affect your phone's battery health.

  • Please do not game or perform high load tasks by plugging your phone into the charger. This will heat up both processor and the battery leading to poor performance, reduced battery health, and malfunctioning of other smartphone components.

  • Nowadays, cuz of AI, phones are learning how you charge your device and optimize the battery performance based on the collected data. So it is highly recommended to use the charger that comes inside the box and not use third-party chargers or power banks.
If the charger doesn't come in the box, purchase the same brand's charger.

  • It is totally fine to charge your phone overnight due to the 'optimized night charging' feature in today's phones.
If you are using an old device that doesn't have this feature, it is recommended to keep your device a few meters away from you just to be safe.

  • If your phone's battery has bulged or swollen, please replace it as soon as possible because the bulged battery acts like an inflated balloon; if any hard or sharp object comes in contact with the battery, it will blast into scraps! And please do not replace the original battery with a budget, third-party battery; replace it with the same brand as the original battery because it will fit perfectly into your device as it is made precisely. It will provide better battery life without any hindrance.
7) Screen protector: If your device has an in-display fingerprint scanner, please do not apply a third-party screen protector as it might interrupt the scanner, and the phone may unlock with a faulty fingerprint. So, use a branded screen protector which is resistant to scratches.
Use a lens cleaner and a microfiber cloth to clean the screen and camera lenses.

So these were some essential HARDWARE information that you need to know when you are using your smartphone and some of the real reasons for the myths you came across in the smartphone world.

My next blog (Part-II) will be packed with important SOFTWARE information, tips, unknown features, and many exciting smartphone software tricks that I personally use to make my phone's software work flawlessly.

Stay tuned...
I'll catch you in the next one.
