Samsung Unpacked Event 2021 *Highlights*

Samsung went live on YouTube and on their official webpage samsung.com, talking about their new products and updates on their operating system. Samsung aims to build technology that helps people and gives them the freedom to personalize tech gadgets.

Samsung introduced us to 2 new folding devices, 2 new watches, their latest earbuds, and the Samsung Operating System - One UI 3.

Starting with the Galaxy Z Fold3,

This device basically works like a regular phone when folded (yea, it's thick) and works as a tablet when unfolded!
This version has some significant updates compared to the previous Galaxy Fold 2.
  • Both screens on this device support a 120hz refresh rate. That means it's butter-smooth while gaming, scrolling through social media posts, news feeds, or this blog :)
  • You also get a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display which delivers high-quality visuals on the main screen when unfolded.
  • The 7.6" display gives you a tablet-like experience. Samsung calls this the 'uninterrupted display' because this is the first foldable phone to come with an under-display camera.
  • You get the stereo speaker system which delivers multi-dimensional sound.
  • Samsung also provides S Pen support to the new fold
  • Most importantly, it gets an IPX8 water resistance rating which means you can submerge your phone more than 1 meter!

Next up is the Galaxy Z Flip3,

As the name mention, this phone flips to any angle that you want it to.
  • The cover screen on this new model is 4 times larger than the previous version. +point is you can preview your video on this cover screen before the actual click/capture. It allows receiving calls, view messages, etc.

  • Samsung Z Flip3 allows using the phone as a laptop, i.e. we can take group selfies without a tripod or attend online meetings hands-free without a phone stand.

  • Flex mode is a helpful feature on the Z Flip3 that auto frames your shots, so everyone is visible in a group photo or a video. When there are 4 people, the phone uses the telephoto lens, and when it recognizes more than 4 or 5 subjects, it automatically switches to the wide or the ultrawide camera.
  • This phone also offers an IPX8 rating.

The two phones also offer an Armor Aluminium frame that is light but very durable and Gorilla Glass Victus (most durable smartphone glass) on both the phones' front and back. These are the only two folding phones on the planet with a water resistance rating!

Now, the Galaxy Watch4 series,

These new watches come with tons of new features and are way better than the previous model. The Galaxy Watch4 Series consists of the Galaxy Watch4 and the Watch4 Classic.

  • These watches come with a durable strap with great color customization.
  • You have 40 unique watch faces to choose from.
  • The new releases are powered by Wear OS, powered by Samsung. You can have easy access to apps on Google Play.

  • Samsung made the Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis or the BIA technology more accessible, i.e. you can adjust your diet and activity level and get measures to bring it to a healthy range.
  • You can check your body composition, blood oxygen, blood pressure, and ECG on this device with the help of the Samsung Health Monitor app.

The Galaxy Buds2,

Samsung claims these buds as the smallest and lightest but more powerful earphones they have ever made.
  • They deliver a secure fit with their improved design.
  • These buds have a 2-way speaker system that has a woofer on one side for more powerful bass and a tweeter on the other side for keener high notes.

  • They offer Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) to block out ambient noises.
  • You can get up to 7.5 hours of playback time with ANC turned off. With ANC on, you get 5 hours of playback time, and the case can keep them working up to 20 hours.
  • They have advanced call quality, i.e. when you are talking with the buds on, the mic#1 and mic#2 (refer to the image below) together perform beamforming (a signal processing technique used in sensor arrays for directional signal transmission). Beamforming funnels the voice directly into the internal mics so that the call quality is crisp clear.

  • They come in many different colors to choose from.

Lastly, the Operating System - One UI 3,

The new UI has improved security features, split-screen features for the folding phones, more personalization options, etc., that I'll talk about in my future blogs.

    1. These folding phones are best in their segment and are unique in its own way. A person who want to try new features and doesn't care much about the durability, battery & performance of the phone can definitely go for it.

    2. Yes the folding phones *were* revolutionary when they first came out, but these are just the design and battery upgrade with new features that's it.

I'll give the detailed review and my opinion abt these phones in my next blog.
