About OnePlus's Hasselblad Cameras

         OnePlus is a Chinese consumer electronic manufacture, best known for making flagship smartphones, was founded by Pete Lau and Carl Pei. It's a subsidiary of BBK Electronics.

OnePlus smartphones are known for their performance, design, super fast charge, customizable software skin, and top-end specs. But they are not that good at delivering such great cameras. OnePlus 9 series is OnePlus's step forward to fix that intricacy by partnering up with Hasselblad.

So what does this Hasselblad branding mean?

Hasselblad is a Swedish camera manufacturer who makes $50,000 cameras and $10,000 lenses! Yes, it's a high-end camera manufacturer whose cameras were used in many NASA missions. In fact, man's first landing on the moon by Neil Armstrong was first captured by a Hasselblad camera. 

It's a weird match between a luxury camera brand and a smartphone company whose main objective is price.

OnePlus has partnered up with Hasselblad to bring colour accuracy that these top-end cameras provide. OnePlus said that they will invest over $150 million in camera and imaging development over the next 3 years.

The result of the new camera set-up is colour, video and the ultra-wide lens. 

Colour: OnePlus has been working on the colour science behind their new camera systems. 

As you can see in this sample, the software does not add that vivid effect on the photo but it tries to keep it as natural as possible, but it gives good vibrant photos. Credit to the Sony IMX789 sensor for these good results (this sensor is only present in the OP 9pro).

Video: In this area, they have focused on 4k 120fps which can be slowed down and can make it look really amazing in so-mo. Also, they have improved the image stabilisation and the dynamic range.

Ultra-wide camera: Here the main role of Hasselblad comes in. They have worked with the ultra-wide lens so as to make it in such a way that it doesn't give that blur pixels in the at the corners of the photo when shot on ultra-wide. Thus, we can say that OnePlus has really given better cameras this time around but they have increased the pricing. This price point has made active competition with other smartphone brands. So it is hard to recommend these phones now. I believe that they'll improve in their upcoming devices. Overall it's a great phone!
